The South African Sports Ministry confirmed his passing on Saturday, July 11, 2026. No cause of death has been released, and the family has requested privacy.
A World Cup Hero Gone Too Soon
Adams played a key role in South Africa’s historic 2026 World Cup campaign. The 25-year-old featured in all three Group A matches:
– Started against Mexico and the Czech Republic
– Came off the bench in the 1-0 win over South Korea that sent Bafana Bafana to the knockout rounds for the first time ever
– Unused substitute in the Round of 32 loss to Canada
He played a total of 116 minutes at the tournament.
In a heartbreaking moment, Adams took the field against the Czech Republic just one day after his grandmother passed away. He was substituted at halftime in that match.
Club Career: From Stellenbosch to Sundowns Glory
Adams rose through the youth ranks at Stellenbosch FC, becoming the club’s first academy graduate to sign a professional contract in August 2020. He spent six seasons there, scoring 8 goals and winning the 2023 Carling Knockout.
He joined Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025 and quickly became a key player. Last season he helped Sundowns win:
– Betway Premiership title
– CAF Champions League 2025/26 — ending the club’s 10-year wait for continental glory
After winning the Champions League, Adams dedicated the medal to his late former Stellenbosch teammate Oshwin Andries, who was stabbed to death in 2023.
International Journey
Adams made his Bafana debut against Mozambique in 2022. He earned 13 caps and scored 2 goals — both in 2026 World Cup qualifiers. 5215
