In KwaZulu-Natal, concerns have been raised regarding the failure of event organizers to compensate artists for their performances.

A recent report by Sunday World shed light on grievances expressed by a collective of artists who claim they were not paid by Mafrika Mpanza following their participation in the Dokodweni Beach Festive held in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal.

According to insider accounts, Mafrika Mpanza has come under fire for allegedly neglecting to fulfill payment obligations to numerous artists and sound system technicians post-event.

Reports suggest that while some emerging artists, who charged minimal fees, received compensation, headline performers have yet to receive their dues.

Questions have been raised regarding the event’s financial management, particularly regarding the disbursement of sponsorship funds, considering the reported delays in artist payments.

DJ Happygal, speaking to Sunday World, highlighted the ongoing issue, stating, “We’re still awaiting payments for our festive season performances. Typically, these payments are expected to be processed by the end of February or March.”

The delayed payments have left many artists in a state of uncertainty, with DJ Happygal expressing her frustration, saying, “I am still awaiting payments from several gigs.”

In light of these challenges, it’s imperative for event organizers to prioritize timely compensation for artists, ensuring fair and transparent practices in the industry.
